Neck Braces

The long and short about neck braces

There are many lengthy write-ups, specifications and information about neck braces and the benefits of using them available on the internet. In short: A neck brace is the helmet for your neck. It prevents the over rotation of your head limiting the over extension of your spinal cord.

If you must decide between a bash plate for your bike and a neck brace? It is obviously and logical to choose a neck brace, but many riders will ignore the importance of a neck brace and would rather get that impressive bash plate fitted. Rembember, your insurance company can fix the dent in your bike’s exhaust pipe or the damage caused by not having that bash plate fitted, but your insurance company will not be able to fix YOU if you should be involved in a serious bike accident. Dress to fall and ride responsibly!

Which brand neck brace should I choose?

We believe Leatt is the best neck brace brand available on the market. Leatt has done almost all the pioneering work regarding neck braces long before the competition started to follow. Leatt has invested far more research and development in the neck brace than any other neck brace brand. On top of this, the founder Dr Chris Leatt is not only a successful businessman, he also studied medicine. Combining Dr. Leatt’s expert knowledge of the human anatomy and sound business principles make the brace and brand phenomenally successful, reliable and comfortable to wear.

Which model Leatt neck brace should I choose?

For adventure motorcycle riding, there are basically three models to choose from, the Leatt GPX 3.5, 5.5 and the 6.5.

The Leatt GPX 3.5 is a budget, lightweight neck brace of which the adjustability is limited. It is made of Polycarbonate. The 3.5 brace ability to take more than one serious impact force is not great, but it will give you the necessary protection when you need it.

On the other side of the spectrum Leatt has the GPX 6.5 brace. Made from carbon fibre, it is lighth-weight, strong and has the most adjustability within the Leatt models. It is also the most expensive of the three models.

The GPX 5.5 is the middle of the range Leatt neck brace and the most popular. The 5.5 brace is made out of composite material which make it stronger than the 3.5 and more impact resistant. The 5.5 model is 200 grams heavier than the GPX 6.5, but significantly cheaper. The 5.5 Neck brace is adjustable in the front and the rear.

Our recommendation: We highly recommend the Leatt GPX 5.5 brace for almost all adventure riding. If you are budget sensitive, but still take your protection seriously, the GPX 3.5 would be suitable. If budget is not an issue for you and/or you race professionaly the GPX 6.5 brace will tick all the boxes.
